Basking sharks Galore off the Old Head of Kinsale, Co. Cork.

18th May 2004 The IWDG have just received a reliable report of a huge aggregation of c100 basking sharks that were observed this Sunday 16th May 2004 by an angling charter off the Old Head of Kinsale. All the sharks were east of the Old Head.

Although such aggregations are rare, they have been documented in waters elsewhere in the British Isles, such as Cornwall.

We have no further information on this remarkable shark activity, so if you see them or hear anymore through the grapevine, please don't hesitate to let us know. All basking shark sightings, once validated, are recorded by IWDG in the same way as your cetacean observations.

Also, plenty of Minke whales been detected in this calm weather further West in west Cork
