IWDG Upcoming Events 2015

IWDG Volunteers will attend the following events throughout 2015 promoting the conservation and research of Whales and Dolphins in Irish Waters.  We hope that you will come along and visit us,  if you would like to volunteer and help out at these events, please email events@iwdg.ie

Event:  Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club Talks
 
Date(s):  11th February & 18th February
Location: Wexford boat club
Details: WHBTC “Wednesday Night Talks” will be starting on Wednesday 11th February and each Wednesday following.  Our first speaker will be IWDG Member Jim Hurley doing a talk on the “Saltee Islands” followed by IWDG Celtic Mist & Membership officer Deirdre Slevin talking about the work of the IWDG and Whales and Dolphins in Irish Waters on the 18th.  The talks will start at 7.30pm and will be for no more than 1 hour.
Cost: None, donations appreciated.

Event:  International Dive Show

Location: Abbey Court, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary
Details: IWDG Welfare Officer Paul Kiernan will give a presenation on the work of IWDG.  IWDG volunteers will be at the show for the weekend promoting merchandise and membership.

Event: Explore the Seashore on Waterville beach with marine biologist Lucy Hunt
Date: SAT16th May 10:30am -11:30am Waterville, Co. Kerry
Details: Foreshore walk looking at local marine biodiversity. Suitable for families, children and anyone interested in marine life.
Followed by BEACH CLEAN 11:30-12:30 as part of Clean Coasts week!
Meet in IRD car park, bring warm clothes/rain gear, good shoes/wellies

Event: Waterville Lakes & Rivers Trust visit to salmon hatchery. See some of the conservation work that is being undertaken by local community to preserve Lough Currane's salmon population. Fly fishing Demonstration
Date: SAT16th May 2pm Waterville, Co. Kerry
Details:Meet at IRD car park @ 2pm. Car sharing.

Event: Irish whale and dolphin group talk and whale watch at Bray Head, Valentia Island, Co. Kerry
Presentation on Irish marine life by marine biologist Lucy Hunt, followed by whale and dolphin watch from Bray Head. Learn best ways to keep a look out for Ireland's marine life. (No guarantee to see any whales or dolphins but will be an enjoyable afternoon in a beautiful location!)
Bring binoculars/telescope, warm clothes/raingear, good walking shoes/boots - 30min gradual incline walk to lookout point. Weather permitting. Meet at Bray Head car park.

Event:  Copeland Bird Observatory Weekend

 
Date(s):  11th - 13th September
Details: Irish Whale and Dolphin Group are organising a ‘cetacean watch’ weekend on Copeland Bird Observatory (CBO). Open to all IWDG members, this is an opportunity to experience an island weekend with hopefully lots of cetacean activity.
