St. Raphael’s College, Loughrea raise money for IWDG

9th May 2012 Hello my name is Sibéal Regan from St. Raphael's College. Loughrea, Co. Galway and I'm currently doing my Junior Certificate.

I organised a fund raiser in our school to raise money for the IWDG and increase awareness about Irish whales and dolphins. I had to research the IWDG website and from there I got an email for Simon Berrow and his phone number. After I had his contact information I e-mailed him about the possibility of the IWDG sending down some prizes for a raffle and other events in the school. I also got sponsorship from Super Mac's and Nadia Beauty Salon in Loughrea. They were very generous and supportive and thanks very much to them.

I got permission from the school principle to sell tickets in school grounds and I am delighted to say that my hard work paid off as I raised €360 for the IWDG. I also raised much needed awareness with people my age. Simon Berrow came to the school and gave an interesting talk to around 70 of my colleagues in school about whales and dolphins in Ireland and the work of the IWDG. Here we formally handed over a cheque to the IWDG.

I hope this helps the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, and the research they are doing. This was a great experience and I strongly recommend other people do it!!
