IWDG to Return to Cape Verde21st Feb 2012 After a successful expedition in 2011, Island Foundation have once again awarded IWDG with a generous grant to continue Humpback Whale research in Cape Verde. From mid-April until the end of May, we will have a shore-based team in Sal Rei, Boa Vista which is possibly the most important site for breeding humpbacks in the entire northeast Atlantic. Like last year, a small RIB will be used to collect biopsy samples and photo ID images when the weather allows.
This year's team will comprise Conor Ryan, Simon Berrow, Darren Graig (IWDG), Pedro Lopez Suarez (Natura) and Fred Wenzel (NOAA). Fundraising for these expeditions is a year-round challenge and we are always interested to hear of new funding avenues. Donations towards this long-term project would be gratefully received and an outline of our research proposal can be provided.
