Bottlenose Dolphin showing well around Northern Ireland

1st Nov 2010 With superb footage obtained around the Whitehead (Co. Antrim) area of some 13 BNDs on the 25th, October finished with further sightings of 30 BNDs at Portstewart (Co. L'Derry) on the 29th.

Based on group size, it appears that this school was resighted around Cushendun (Co. Antrim) yesterday (31st) - although this sighting has yet to be submitted and validated, these were seen by an experienced observer. Heading south, it is possilbe that the solitary BND observed at Larne later that afternoon, was part of this group.

Alas 2 effort watches this morning in the Islandmagee area produced nothing - not even a porpoise but wonderful to see this astonishing increase in sightings of these glorious dolphins continue. With large groups of Bottlenose Dolphin being reported from the Isle of Man in October, there is certainly a lot of activity in the Irish Sea.
