Celtic Mist sails to Grand Canal Dock this Sat, 18th Nov17th Nov 2017
The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group’s (IWDG) research vessel, the Celtic Mist, will be overwintering in Grand Canal Dock, Dublin, to undertake essential repairs and preparation for next season. The Celtic Mist will depart Poolbeg Yacht Club at 10:30 am this Saturday, 18th November and travel upriver to Grand Canal Dock for c. 11:30 am. A bridge lift is arranged for 11:00 am, which will make a great spectacle as Celtic Mist enters the dock.
Waterways Ireland have kindly organised the berth at Charlotte Quay this winter so the IWDG can undertake repairs and do some outreach with local groups, schools and IWDG members.
The Celtic Mist was formerly owned by Taoiseach, Mr Charles Haughey, before being donated to the IWDG in 2011 by the Haughey family. The Celtic Mist has been a key research vessel for the IWDG and provides a unique opportunity for IWDG members to take part in surveys, as well as enable the group to conduct offshore research, where blue whales and many other species of marine megafauna have been observed.
IWDG members can travel on the Celtic Mist and anyone who would be interested in taking part in the trip can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
